Meet the North Pine Belgians
At North Pine Carriage Co, our horse drawn experiences are brought to life by a team of remarkable Belgian draft horses. Meet our equine stars: Dan, Lola, Carla, and Jewel. They are the heart and soul of our enchanting carriage and wagon rides, providing an unparalleled blend of strength, grace, and gentle demeanor.
Duke, for those who remember, we retired him this past spring. Duke, with his gentle spirit and years of loyal service, brought joy and wonder to countless guests over the years. The seasoned veteran at 15 years old, was born and raised out in Amish country.
Dan, is the largest of the group, at an impressive 18 hands tall (a hand is 4 inches). At 14 years old, Dan is retired from competing in pulling competitions and we are thankful to have him. His deep red coat is a sight to behold, and his size is only matched by his gentle disposition. With his towering presence and gentle get to work attitude, Dan in a crowd favorite for sure.
Lola, is our newest addition to our equine family. She is a beautiful registered Belgian, with an almost white blonde mane and tail. Hailing from Ohio, where Lola showed around the state competing in driving as a single all the way to teams six. This majestic girl is bound to capture the heart of all who will meet her.
Carla, is a 5-year-old registered Belgian mare who is expecting a foal in spring 2025. Carla’s warm, affectionate personality makes her a joy to be around, and she’s settling in beautifully with the rest of our team. We’re excited to watch Carla’s journey into motherhood and share the experience with our guests.
Jewel, is a 6-year-old registered Belgian mare with a bright future at North Pine Carriage Company. We’re thrilled to announce that she is currently in foal and expecting a Belgian baby in the spring of 2025. Jewel is a strong and graceful mare, and we can’t wait to see her share her gentle spirit with the next generation.
Fun Facts About the Belgian Breed:
Belgians are one of the strongest and most powerful horse breeds in the world. Their remarkable strength was historically utilized in agricultural work, where they played a vital role in plowing fields and hauling heavy loads.
Despite their robust appearance, Belgians are known for their gentle temperament, making them wonderful companions for family friendly experiences like carriage rides.
Belgian draft horses can weigh over 2,000 pounds, showcasing their impressive size and stature.
The breed’s origins can be traced back to the Barbant region of Belgium, hence their name.
Today, Belgians are celebrated for their versatility, often participating in parades, competitions, and of course, providing charming horse-drawn experiences like ours at North Pine Carriage Co.
A little more about the woman who brought the Belgians to the quaint town of Sisters Oregon.
Hello, fellow adventurers! I’m Awbrey Cyrus, a 7th-generation Oregonian who grew up farming and ranching in the heart of Central Oregon. Agriculture runs in my blood, and from a young age, I’ve been immersed in the joys and challenges of rural life, learning the ins and outs of raising livestock, working with horses, and caring for the land. These experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for the beauty of hard work and the strong bond between people and animals.
In 2020, I turned my lifelong passion into something special by founding North Pine Carriage Company. My goal has always been to share the magic of horse-drawn carriage rides and bring people closer to the heritage of working with horses. Whether it’s a scenic ride through Sisters, Oregon, or a fairytale wedding entrance, I love creating moments that people will cherish forever.
Our farm is a bustling and lively place! I raise sheep, cattle, goats, quarter horses, and hay, and every day is a new adventure. My life is made even richer by my wonderful family. I’m a proud mom to my bonus kiddo, who is 11, a spirited 2-year-old, and our newest little one, just 4 months old. You’ll often see my kids joining me on wagon rides, adding their own joy and laughter to the experience.
Balancing farm life, a growing family, and a thriving business keeps me on my toes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share the beauty of horses and the charm of rural Oregon with you. Let’s make some unforgettable memories together!
Warmly,
Awbrey Cyrus
